American Optical Original Pilot Gold
Since 1942 American Optical was the official supplier for sunglasses and goggles of the US Army and Military. Due to the drastically changed cockpit designs in the 1950s AO created the model FG 58 (Flight Goggle 58) for the American military pilots in 1958, which is now known, as the Original Pilot. It quickly turned into one of the most recognizable and popular pieces of American eyewear due to it being the first pair of sunglasses on the moon. Neil Armstrong and the entire crew of the Apollo 11 wore them during their mission. 1976 Robert De Niro´s character was sporting them during the iconic movie Taxi Driver. There are so many memorable moments where the choice of eyewear was the Original Pilot. This specification has a gold steel alloy frame, classic Green SkyMaster™ Mineralglas, and the Bayonett temple style with clear tip. All sunglasses come with a case and a polishing cloth.
Not the right combination? We also offer the Original Pilot with a Silver steel alloy frame, classic Green SkyMaster™ Mineralglas, and the Bayonett temple style with clear tip.
